youth
Our paid youth internships provide young people with opportunities to challenge themselves, build meaningful connections with each other and the land, and make a positive impact on our food system right now.
We offer paid internships for youth to work directly with our farm and nonprofit staff to grow and distribute produce and develop leadership skills. About 30% of interns return year after year to participate in our academic year programs, assume leadership roles, mentor the next class of interns, and lead community volunteer efforts.
During the 6-week summer internship, youth spend mornings on the farm - planting, tending, and harvesting under the guidance of Conundrum Farms’ growers. While literally getting their hands dirty and being immersed in “Farming 101”, they come to appreciate that hard work is worth the effort and that good outcomes are worth waiting for.
Each afternoon, we take a break from the summer sun and dig deep into weekly themes of community, responsibility, service, initiative, commitment, hope, and courage. These themes build on each and guide the activities we conduct in the afternoons. Workshop topics include sustainable agriculture, food access, leadership, teamwork, civic participation, effective communication, and more.
On Wednesdays, we volunteer with community partners across the city - an opportunity to grow in service, knowledge, and empathy.
